Bug Description

Ubuntu 9.10
After having fixed the problem everyone's having about not having any sound output jack at all (using alsamixer),
now I have sound from the left channel only.
If I do speaker-test it'll try Front Left only, unless I add -c2 to it, in which case it'll try Front right too but it will output no sound.

Please let me know what kind of reports I should be sending to you, but this is just the ubuntu live cd (in a usb stick) pretty much out of the box on a macbook 2.1

See:

Simple mixer control 'IEC958',0
  Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined
  Playback channels: Mono
  Mono: Playback [on]

Mute this.

It is worth noting that if I take out the headphones both internal speakers work, although I still need to add -c2 to speaker test in order to get both channels tested. The same headphones work fine in mac OS

Well, yes, that's the designed behavior of speaker-test.

Same behavior, but I'm running Intrepid on my Macbook2,1.

I should add that it definitely did work until sometime in November (I've been upgrading packages only every week or so, however).

Hi sdistefano,

Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 484576

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

Please let us know your results.
