Bug Description

Binary package hint: acpi-support

Hi all,
AFAI understand acpi-support is a package for laptops to do power management stuff as one goes from A/C power to battery & vice-versa. But why is it a depends of ubuntu-desktop, xubuntu-desktop etc. I have a CRT, a Philips 107E5 . I have been having an issue https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163985 when on a hunch I decided to also check out the acpi-support as acpi-support also had a recent update/upgrade. Much to my amazement/horror this is a dependancy for ubuntu-desktop, xubuntu-desktop and power-management interfaces. Shouldn't this be something that upstart or some other package should look at & then say whether this package is needed or not OR there are some other functions as well which are performed by this package (which are needed in a CRT environment as well) ?

ACPI is not specific to laptops only - it is present in desktop computers as well.
