Bug Description

Binary package hint: abiword

Sugar's word processor Write is based on abiword, and uses pyabiword to access the abiword functionality. This requires that abiword is built using --enable-libabiword, which then generates a libabiword-2.6.so.

Without this, sugar-write-activity cannot be shipped with jaunty. This is a major core activity for Sugar, so we'd really like to be able to ship it. It was shipped in a broken state in hardy, and then removed from intrepid before release.

Do keep in mind that we'll probably need to fix this locally in Ubuntu, as we want to get sugar-write-activity in before featurefreeze.

Luke: I don't see a .so file being built or included in the new packages. See the attached debdiff of the .deb packages.

If we want to include libabiword*.so it should be split out into a separate package, I feel - and that needs to be coordinated with Debian.

Debian maintainers haven't been responsive on this unfortunately so we need to fix it. Can somebody please help with a patch for this? I've looked at it but couldn't figure out how to split out libabiword(-dev).

Debdiff attached - this builds in pbuilder for me and the resulting libabiword and libabiword-dev packages look OK to me from what I can tell.

the libabiword package needs a version in it to track ABI bumps (e.g. libabiword0). Please fix that and resubscribe main sponsors.
