Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-gdm-themes

Please remove the following packages from Lucid:

ubuntu-gdm-themes
feisty-gdm-themes
edgy-gdm-themes
gdm-themes

Each consists only of old GDM themes that will only function with gdm <= 2.20 Their presence is confusing for users. As per discussion on ubuntu-art, I am filing this removal request.

There a number of other GDM themes in the archive that are part of other packages. I will upload versions of blubuntu-look, peace-look, and tropic-look removing their GDM themes. arc-colors will also be removed from Lucid once the wallpapers it provides are moved to the shiki-colors package.

Is it really right to remove these? We still have the gdm-2.20 package in the archive, and it is still used by Xubuntu

Does Xubuntu actually use gdm-2.20? See:

As far as I can tell the only packages that use gdm-2.20 are the
arc-colors GDM themes.

$ apt-cache rdepends gdm-2.20
gdm-2.20
Reverse Depends:
  arc-wise
  arc-wine
  arc-noble
  arc-illustrious
  arc-human
  arc-dust
  arc-brave

I'm not sure then. If Xubuntu doesn't use the old GDM, then it should probably just be removed from the archive too
