Bug Description

I have a service that emails me my voicemail messages in .gsm format. I have all available gstreamer0.10-* plugins installed, including universe packages.

Totem and other GStreamer players cannot play these .gsm files. I get an error saying "Cannot determine type of stream."

I can play the files using the command-line program sox and libsox-fmt-gsm.

There used to be a gstreamer0.8-gsm package in older versions of Ubuntu. Perhaps this plugin got dropped when the 0.10 series changed to the good/bad/ugly packaging.

Find attached a demo sound file and a totem debug log.

thank you for your bug report, that's an upstream issue and should be sent to bugzilla.gnome.org

I've filed the same bug upstream and linked to it.

GSM is a common audio format for voice mail attachments.

This is still a problem in Intrepid. Will the fix come through with Jaunty, do you think?

I am having this problem in Ubuntu 9.04. Could we have an update?

@Pedro I only see a patch upstrem, no one confirming this is fixed or works. Can't find any references to it in this changelog either:
https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer0.10https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer0.10/+bug/290527

This was marked fixed back in January, I don't see anything in karmic nor -proposed either.

Can you clarify what nextsteps should have been ? If there's anything I can do (testing) for upstream's benefit, I'd be glad to.

I apologize, I just saw the link to the upstream bug report. It says it was committed back in January, but I'm still experiencing the issue. Am I the only one?

Martin, I'm running 9.10. Totem says Pause | 0:00 (Streaming) and when I hit play, the "visual effects" play for what I would approximate as the time of the recording, however the time does not change and no audio is heard.

Thanks. I posted your comment on the upstream bug. Let's wait for them to respond.

Nope! not fixed in 9.10
Cannot hear the gsm file when I move my cursor on it and cannot play back in TKUsr (yes I know that application is obsolete. - but there is nothing else that will upload a gsm file to the modem - except now it doesn't)
