Ubuntu 8.04 CD emits smoke from DVD drive

Bug Description

Yesterday I received the Ubuntu 8.04 LTS CD in the mail. Last evening I was running Windows XP on my Gateway laptop and inserted the Ubuntu CD to try later. I continued to browse & do some emails in windows. After about 15 minutes I smelt something burning & then saw smoke coming from from DVD drive. A message about rebooting appeared on the screen just before the computer turned itself off.
I was able to get the Ubuntu CD out & it does not show any damage. After waiting for about an hour I tried my laptop and it seems to be running fine & nothing is burning or smelling. This has never happened before so I am assuming that somehow the Ubuntu CD caused the laser in the drive to get something very hot.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu better. However, this isn't a software bug in Ubuntu, so I'm closing it. Smoke from a CD drive indicates either a failing drive, or a faulty CD (in which case, you should speak to the distributor of the CD).

Thanks
