[HARDY][REGRESSION] No Audio on Thinkpad (T61p)

Bug Description

After a clean install of Hardy Alpha 6, and up through tonight's updates, I have no audio.

uname -a: Linux noel-hardy 2.6.24-12-generic #1 SMP Sat Mar 8 01:30:36 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

dmesg is attached. You'll notice all of the problems during bootup. The following details are probably superfluous, given the information from dmesg.

The Gnome Volume Applet has the red strikethough, and double-clicking results

No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.

If I go to System->Preferences->Sound, I see that everything that can be is set to Autodetect. Clicking "Test" results in:

  Sound Events
Sound playback: audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument

  Music and Movies
Sound playback: audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=music: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument

  Audio Conferencing
Sound playback: audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument
Sound capture: gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat: Could not open audio device for recording.

I can confirm this bug.

It doesn't happen if the system is booted on the 2.6.24-11 version kernel : should we specify linux-2.6.24-12 as the package having the bug ?

I'm using the Area 51 m9750 from Alienware and a 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller sound card according to System >> Preference >> Hardware Information.

Same here, 2.6.24-12 kernel got pushed yesterday, booting into which I encounter similar problem. Again 2.6.24-11 works fine. Can confirm this on Intel 915 GM with AC'97 Audio Controller
