I'm also keen to see this added to the repositories for Hardy. They even have a quote from Mark Shuttleworth enthusing about it on their home page: http://openproj.org/openproj

If the bug is "in progress" means that they are working on it... so I don't think it is out yet.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the interest.

Let me first say that this project is supposed to be going into the commercial repositories. It has been there for a while, and after not hearing anything from the commercial repo team, I have started going up the ranks to see what happened. Hopefully this thing will work.

Thanks!

Jon

not in Intrepid Partner either. Any updates on this ?

Yes, this bug is for the old version of the hardware, originally sent to the the Canonical Partner repo folks for building. In short, Canonical failed at bringing the program into the partner repositories, and now I am working on a build myself for placement in the repositories. Hopefully it will make it this time around.

gah... I mean *software* instead of hardware. One more note: this bug is old, and if possible, I would like to close it. It's currently marked as a duplicate with the other, more updated bug that I filed.

Thanks!

Jon

No problem if you want to close the bug, but could you then port the list of people "watching" this thread on the other bug report, so that we would still be informed of progresses as they happen?

Well, openproj development in ubuntu is dead. It turns out that the package development is way over my head. The ubuntu .deb package is available from openproj.org.

So, I'm still looking at this, but lost my work-in-progress with a HW failure (reminder: backup source directories), and it's not really correct to still call it in-progress.

Any news here?
I started my search here: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/8757
and as reported on brainstorm, this kind of request are bug with needs-packaging tag, so after a while I've found this bug report.

Just a few considerations:
* It's a good program that give to users a functional and stable alternative and replacement to analogous proprietary software used on other OS (see bug #1).
* The license of OpenProj is CPAL 1.0 (http://www.opensource.org/licenses/cpal_1.0) a license approved by the OSI.
* On the OpenProj site (http://openproj.org/openproj) there is a clear indication of their support for GNU/Linux OS and they have also a DEB package.
* Furthermore the main screenshot is of OpenProj running under Ubuntu and, as cited above in this bug report, there is also a quote of Mark Shuttleworth.

So it's strange that this isn't yet in Ubuntu repository.
bye

Openproj development seens to be stopped for several months. Maybe the project is dead.

There is not much response on the upstream mailing lists either. I think the company behind it is focusing on their web service instead.

BTW, a good blog post about packaging java applications: http://fnords.wordpress.com/2010/09/24/the-real-problem-with-java-in-linux-distros/

Any progress here?
The program might be undeveloped for some time, but it is not reason for not packaging it - it is still very useful (has more features than Planner), and also the development might start again.

Unassigning, changing to won't fix.

According to Wikipedia (and sourceforge timestamps) this project has stopped development in 2008 and a new fork continued its development under the "ProjectLibre" name.

"In late 2008, Projity was acquired by Serena Software.[2] As of early 2009 support for OpenProj and communication about development of OpenProj seem to have been suspended.[3] There were actually regressions with a few commits to the CVS, There has been no improvement in the past four years and it is not longer compatible with Microsoft Project.

In 2012, the founders of OpenProj forked the abandoned code base of OpenProj and started development for a new release. The initial release of this fork occurred in August 2012. The name of the new fork is ProjectLibre."
