Bug Description

I updated when prompted and on restart the resolution dropped to 800x600 and the screen display was horizontally fuzzy like it was having refresh issues. I am currently using a HP/Compaq NX9010. Due to the display problems, the system in no longer operable.

I don't understand why something that worked in 6.10 is now suddenly not working in 7.04. My Screen resolution is all mixed up. I'm using Kubuntu.

First - The desktop screen was larger than my monitor screen. When I moved my mouse to the right, then the screen scrolled further right to see the off-screen display.

Second - After I fiddled around with the "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" settings, I managed to have everything shown within my monitor's boundaries. However, no matter how I try to set it to 1024x768@60Hz, it keeps on falling back to 800x600@60. In my Monitor & Display - System Settings, under the Hardware tab, I selected the generic 1024x768@60Hz monitor, but under the Size, Orientation & Positioning tab the maximum I can go is 800x600@60Hz.

My monitor was working fine under 6.04 with the 1024x768@60Hz setting. My monitor is a LG Studioworks 552V and I have a Matrox Millenium II graphics card using the mga driver.

I discovered my answer to my problem on the KubuntuForums.net website. Try using the keyboard shortcut [CTRL]+[Alt]+[+] or [-].

I've successfully install Ubuntu Gutsy on my HP Compaq nx9010. No display problem anymore.

However, you may need some tweak on usplash resolution.

Go to terminal:

sudo gedit /etc/usplash.conf
change "xres=1280" to "xres=1024"
change "yres=1024" to "yres=768"

save changes to file and exit gedit

sudo update-usplash-theme usplash-theme-ubuntu

that will do...

Should be fixed in 8.04. If not, reopen.
