No Easy Way to record Video

Bug Description

I just want a simple, no frills way to take video footage off of my camera, through my TV card, and save a xvid or divx file that I can upload to YouTube. I'd love it if I could choose between speex and mp3 for the audio, but I'd much rather just have a "One Size Fits All" app that has a big red circle on a square button, that when pressed RECORDS the incoming signal, and spits out a generic xvid that I can then upload to YouTube, edit in Kino (or some better iMovie clone), and etc.

What I've tried:
Kino
Google Picasa (under wine)
MythTV
TVtime (no record function)
Pitivi
Zapping

What's Worked:
Not a damned thing. I even tried gtk record my desktop with the video playing in TVtime, but the video was jumpy and erratic, and way too high res.

If Ubuntu is ever going to be a first tier OS that more than a gross minority of people use, this needs to be addressed.

You would have a far better chance of getting stuff fixed if you helped by contributing patches, and doing testing for the various projects. This bug, in itself, is offensive and useless. Ubuntu, and it's programs are done by volunteers for the most part - they are not required to do your bidding, unless they wish to. If you write your bugs such that you think they are, you will be ignored.

Closing, due to offensiveness, and uselessness (and the fact that it's pointless to track meta-bugs like this, this way)
