Bug Description

From Ubuntu 6.10 release notes (<url:http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/610>) it's possible to follow a link to http://www.ubuntu.com/BitTorrent, which in turn is a broken link.

BTW: there's no easy to find directions on how to download ubuntu using bittorrent in this new site.

I've fixed the link you cite. However I'll leave the bug open because your point about there being no way to find out how to download Ubuntu using bittorrent is a serious bug.

OK, I've added the bt downloads to the /getubuntu/downloadmirrors page and updated the explanatory paragraph so that it indicates that there are other download options in addition to the list of mirrors. We are deliberately keeping the bt links low key. However, now, once the index is updated, a search for bittorrent should yield satisfactory results.

Matthew:

Thanks for the speedy response. This is a good change, although
it doesn't completely address my concern.

It seems that the site is giving conflicting advice: In the note
above, you say you want to keep the BT links low key, yet the
Feisty Fawn news page (http://www.ubuntu.com/news/Ubuntu704Beta)
says to use BT if possible.

I don't feel strongly either way. My original note was simply a
suggestion for placing a link to the .torrent file right next to
the .iso links in the main text of this page
(http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.04/) so that people might try the
BT link instead of downloading the full .iso from your server.

I think the suggestion of just making a bittorrent link beside the
regular download link would make sense. Maybe it also makes sense to
write a small FAQ about what bittorrent is too, for those users who
don't know.

UNIX is user friendly, it's just picky about who its friends are

Ok, I'll open a task on ubuntu-cdimage for that. You can link to the documentation at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BitTorrent if you like.

We should also address the inconsistency between what Matthew has said (bittorrent is intentionally low key) and the statement in the release notes about bittorrent being preferred. Should the latter be changed?
