I just uploaded a file with a similar name with no problem, through the web browser on the current web ui with Firefox 3.0.11 on Ubuntu 9.04

I need some more information about this bug, can you please let us know what web browser you are using on what operating system?

I was able to upload and download a file with the same name with the web interface on Firefox 3.x with Ubuntu 9.04, but there may be problems with other web browser and operating system combinations.

I tried with Firefox 3.5 from the repository, in Jaunty, with a file with the same name.

It uploaded correctly, and went into my disk in my desktop correctly (through syncdaemon).

Going back to the web ui, I click on the file and see the image correctly on the right side of the screen. I even see the name correctly. But I click on "download", and the name that firefox suggest me to save the file locally is "?????.jpg".

I am highly suspect of this being a bug in Firefox 3.5 now. Both jblount and I tried in 3.0, and it worked fine to upload and download. Both Facundo and wiz tried with 3.5, and it fails in the download case. I bet 3.5 is trying to convert it to US-ASCII while 3.0 does not.

Looks like system is spewing file name in unicode (utf-16 or smth., not -8) confusing browser.

This was fixed with fallback filenames. We supply utf-8 and and a fallback to ascii (and ? replaces characters outside ascii range) filenames.
