Bug Description

It would be useful if PPAs (that were descended from Ubuntu) could offer a diff against the current version in Ubuntu in addition to the presently avalable diff against the previous version in the PPA. For example, the network-manager package in the network-manager PPA currently offers "0.7~~svn20080812t224027+eni0-0ubuntu1~nm2 to 0.7~~svn20080818t061112+eni0-0ubuntu1~nm1"; it'd be useful to see a diff from 0.7~~svn20080818t061112+eni0-0ubuntu1 (the current version in Intrepid) as well, so that we can tell what would happen if we were to copy that package from the PPA straight into Ubuntu.

Implementing this would be useful for our code review processes.

This already exists. Having it against the corresponding ubuntu release too would be very useful though! Same for getting diffs in the new / unapproved queues!

Right, read this as "in addition to the presently availabe diff against the
previous version in the PPA".

I'm promoting it to 'high' due to the clear benefit it would bring to jaunty if implemented earlier. 2.1.12 would be ideal.

This requires feature work I think - we don't have a good slot to put this in - but the derivative distro work may actually help a great deal by providing a vehicle to make this stuff less adhoc. I'm setting it as low priority but the stakeholders process can be used to get it done earlier.

Package diff infrastructure is all done, ages ago. You just need to request a
diff between the relevant versions and it appears magically some time later.
It needs UI work to present it of course, so will remain a feature because of
that.
