Bug Description

I have tried to update from ST 2008 to ST 2009 by doing the following:
     apt-get remove ST 2008
     copy data file
     apt-get install ST 2009

After the usual messages from apt-get I recieve the following error message:

Setting up schooltool-2009 (1) ...
update-rc.d: warning: /etc/init.d/schooltool-2009 missing LSB information
update-rc.d: see <http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts>
 * Starting SchoolTool 2009... Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/paster", line 17, in <module>
    from paste.script import command
ImportError: No module named paste.script

I can't load the site and I'm not really sure how to deal with this. I have some critical data in the database.

This has come up for me intermittently but trying again to start SchoolTool usually works.

Something is wrong here though that we have to get to the bottom of.

Can you please tell us which Ubuntu release you are using? Jaunty?

Is the following folder created in your system?
/usr/share/python-support/python-paste

Did you try starting SchoolTool server manually from terminal?
The command is:
sudo /etc/init.d/schooltool-2009 start
See http://book.schooltool.org/htmlhelp/setup-initial.html

If you need to use SchoolTool very urgently and nothing helps, you can downgrade: make a back-up of your database, apt-get remove ST 2009, install 2008 again and use it with your data file.

Judging by Laurie's subsequent questions, I think this went away. One person ran into this and couldn't get rid of it, but he messed around with the configuration of his system so much that debugging it further was impossible.

Please have a crack at this Justas on Tuesday. Perhaps a Python version problem?
