Bug Description

When removing window decorations, metacity doesn't resize the window and causes a white space below some windows when they first appear under UNR. Maximus hides this issue partially.

TEST CASE: run synaptic from a jaunty UNR install, notice that while the package cache is scanned, there's a blank space below the window.

This is actually a metacity bug (that's why we have our own metacity package), I need a bit of time to get it ready for Intrepid. I'm aiming to get it done by the end of the week.

Hi, Neil. I have the same bug, it affects not only common programs, but also:
- Globulation 2 (maximus changes the resolution from 1024x600 down to 1024x~575:
- IntelliJ IDEA, Java IDE. In hardy it worked well, but on intrepid if the window is maximized it doesn't repaint, so I have to unmaximize it.

I just installed this jaunty UNR and have this bug. It happens on a lot of programs - but the most common is nautilus. Is there a new metacity package coming to fix this?

This still exists in Jaunty UNR Final.

What is the status of the fix? Neil, are you going to keep packaging a patched metacity package in the UNR ppa? Are you going to put the patch into the regular jaunty metacity package?

This bug make the UNR experience less than ideal (particular showing it off to new users).

@jdeslip: I'm following up for Jaunty inclusion, but until then, I've uploaded a patched jaunty Metacity to the netbook-remix-team PPA (https://edge.launchpad.net/~netbook-remix-team/+archive/ppa). Hopefully we'll get an SRU soon (and thanks for reminding me!).

Thanks Neil. The new package works great. It would be nice to include this as an update to jaunty. Since, most new users won't find that ppa.

Yes thanks Neil, works great for me too. It really makes a difference to the UNR experience on my Dell Mini, so would be great to get it into the regular jaunty metacity package.

Is there a recipe to reproduce this? I see this bug on synaptic /startup/, but it fixes itself quickly as the window contents are updated.

Impact: display glitches or misrenderings while using apps under UNR.
Fix in development branch was to trigger a metacity resize of the window after the maximize event.
Attaching the patch which was merged upstream.
Regression potential: can't really think of anything, perhaps more redraws?

In addition to synaptic, I also saw this problem in nautilus. If I opened nautilus by clicking on one of the folders displayed by netbook-launcher, I would see the empty space underneath the window. Maximizing with the title-bar button was not enough to cover up the empty space. Only clicking on the title bar and selecting maximize caused the window to fill up all available space. At least, this is my recollection. Hope this helps with the test case.

Tested fine; the nautilus test case is much easier to verify, but I verified both with synaptic and nautilus and windows are properly maximized.

silly question: why the metacity version installed is 2.25.144? Wasn't the final stable 2.26.x released?

However, the proposed package fixes all wrong maximized windows for me.
