Bug Description

Binary package hint: netbook-launcher

The netbook-launcher shows a duplicate "Desktop" entry. Both appear to work independently of each other as far as highlighting and clicking. The netbook was logged out, didn't fix it, and a restart didn't fix it either.

Screenshot Included.

Hum, that's really weird, I can't reproduce it there. Do you have the desktop folder as an nautilus bookmark? (Normally, my code handle this case and should show it only once).
If it's the case, can you please try to remove it, restart netbook-launcher, check that you only have one and then, readd it and restart netbook-launcher to show the status.

Thanks!

It is odd. The Desktop is not, and never was, a bookmark with Nautilus, I had thought of that too. Any other ideas I could try?

Looking again at the code, it's clearly what it seek for (that's the part of code I've changed recently):
1 - loading home/desktop/examples/downloads (the later only if examples.desktop is present in your home)
2 - looking at nautilus bookmark, and if there is home/desktop/downloads, ignore them :/
What do you have in your .gtk-bookmarks?

On that machine, .gtk-bookmarks consists of:

file:///home/brittany/Documents
file:///home/brittany/Music

Well, I'm totally puzzled to be honest :/
Can you try to start with a daily image on a usb stick to see if it happens even on the live session? then, try to copy some part of your home in this usb stick to look from where the error comes?

Thanks a lot for your time on that.

I have the same symptoms and i could track it to $HOME/.config/user-dirs.dirs
Some time ago I defined XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR to $HOME/Desktop and removing that line seems to fix this problem.

@Karin was netbook-launcher showing a duplicate in "Files and Folders" or in your Favorites? I will check user-dirs.dirs and see if anything odd is defined there.

The ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs is as follows, so I should remove one of them. Which of the two are "okay" to delete, or should netbook-launcher be able to work around this?

# Format is XDG_xxx_DIR="$HOME/yyy", where yyy is a shell-escaped
# homedir-relative path, or XDG_xxx_DIR="/yyy", where /yyy is an
# absolute path. No other format is supported.

I have this bug in the Netbook 10.04 final edition! I have 2 links to home folder in my "files & folders" menu. I fix this editing user-dirs.dirs.

Same here. Judging by comment #12, duplicate icon isn't showed only when the icon have desktop uri but in other conditions it's showed. In my case this happens because of this line in user-dirs.dirs:
XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR="$HOME/"

Didier Roche-Tolomelli (didrocks) wrote :

Right, that can happen (I've only fixed XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR="$HOME/Desktop"), not HOME itself.
Please open a new bug stating those info so that it can be fixed as an SRU.
