bugzilla.kernel.org bugwatch shows wrong status

I think there's some confusion here. If you look at http://bugzilla.kernel.org/page.cgi?id=fields.html#status you'll notice that NEW is actually Bugzilla's way of saying the bug is Confirmed. Bugzilla has an Unconfirmed status (which we map to New in Launchpad). This is one of the unfortunate consequences of our renaming of statuses, but the way it works is:

  - Bugzilla UNCONFIRMED -> Launchpad New
  - Bugzilla NEW -> Launchpad Confirmed

Annoying, huh?

Yes, that's quite annoying. This is probably something either the bug squad or the Launchpad documentation team should write up. Are there any other bug trackers that you know of where this is the case?

All bugtrackers have their own specific mappings. We could document that in the help pull-out for each bugtracker, or in help.launchpad.net. Do you ever visit the individual bugtracker pages? Where could we usefully link to this page?

I'm guessing most people would encounter this when actually viewing a bug report so perhaps doing something with the affects line containing the bug watch would be the most accessible.

Another way to fix this would be for either Launchpad or Bugzilla (or both) to stop trying to using "new" to mean anything other than "reported recently". Launchpad could rename "New" back to "Unconfirmed", and/or Bugzilla could rename "NEW" to "CONFIRMED".

We're not in the position to have Bugzilla update its status names, but
we could certainly move New back to Unconfirmed (which would match
nicely against Confirmed). However, that has a cost with it.
