Bug Description

The default Mailman info page for the list could stand
some improvements.
I've noticed it over and over and finally decided to
contribute to a
solution instead of griping about the problem. ;-)

I recommend these two changes:

 1. Move the administrative "$listname Subscribers"
section to the bottom
of the page. Admins will know where to look and
subscribers should not
have to read through admin info to get to the
section that concerns
    them (changing subscription options).

 2. Add a standard colored section header titled
"Change Options or
Unsubscribe". The original format for this section
did not clearly
indicate that this is the section for
unsubscribing. Users have to
read the fine print. Reading the fine print is fine
for detailed
instructions, but the users should have some idea
that the unsub
instructions are there just by looking at the
section header.

+1 for this

Also, related, unsubscribe could be prioritised in the options page once an email address is supplied.

Here's a patch just for the English template that does what the reporter suggests

I also have long wanted such changes. I am now testing my first mailing list with non-techy Windows folks and the default Mailman info page is very confusing to them. There are other changes that would help them, too, such as eliminating the extended discussion on the default Welcome page about mailing list commands--those are for more "advanced" users IMHO.

On the Welcome page I would make the following text optional or else hide it under a separate link for advanced use:

# remove or move the following: =================
You can also make such adjustments via email by sending a message to:

 <email address hidden>

with the word `help' in the subject or body (don't include the
quotes), and you will get back a message with instructions.
# end of removed or moved text =================

To post a comment you must log in.
