Modesare likely to matter to some users, so we should copy/permit copying of modes at least.

Modes would be useful for the blacklisting of packages where necessary (a la bug #522225 for example).

Querying steve from that bug, technically a delete would have been ok as well; so this still doesn't look like a priority - though it is definitely a desirable feature.
