Please fix this. It's embarassing to see new packages uploaded with remote code exploit vulnerabilities being labled as Ubuntu packages. It's managed completely separately from Ubuntu and trying to represent it otherwise is just incorrect.

This issue also affect The main distro page https://launchpad.net/ubuntu where partners is shown as part of the distro when in fact it's not.

I agree that it would be correct to fix this. I'm not sure that it is currently straightforward to do so. "ubuntu" is the only distro that Launchpad really manages fully, and pulling this out is probably rather difficult. I mention this not to discourage anyone from working on it but to indicate that this is unfortunately probably not something that we can address in the short term.

Software-center is now using this information and displays it in the UI. It would be really good to fix this bug for lucid-final.

Adding a software-center task, this is currently responsible for making the detection of new repositories fail when "partner" got added. Because of the same origin it will fail to detect the new channel and fail to index it.

The partner archive is going to move to using PPA(s), according to Brian, so this may become moot.

Ups, wrong bug. I care about the Origin and Label in http://archive.canonical.com/dists/lucid/Release

Apparently after 4 years we discover this is not a bug, but a feature.
