want to subscribe to a merge proposal

Bug Description

People want to subscribe to merge proposals like they can subscribe to individual bugs. At the moment the only option is to subscribe to the whole branch, which is hard to discover, inconsistent with other similar aspects of Launchpad (bugs, answers), and not what people actually want.

Story:

As a non-core developer on a project
I want to subscribe to just one review that I'm interested in
So that I can participate in that conversation, without getting mailed about every review

I realize this was an intentional design decision originally, but actual experience with the tool seems to be proving it was not the best decision.

People sometimes expect (see bug 406492 and https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~lifeless/bzr/subunit/+merge/15704) that commenting or voting on the mp will be enough, but it's not.

Actually voting on the proposal is enough to get all the emails.

+1. FWIW, what I usually do is " vote abstain subscribe". The subcribe
part is optional, I only specify it to make it clear that I'm not really
voting, I just want to get mail.

But having an easy way of subscribing would be much better, since I
don't think most people know how to subscribe to code reviews.

As mentioned before (I remember having this discussion before), the
subscription doesn't have to be tied to the MP itself. Providing an easy
way of subscribing to the source branch would be enough. That way, the
DB model stays the same.

If voting subscribes you then it's odd that it doesn't put you into
the 'subscribers' column.

That would be ok as a workaround, and it may be the pragmatic thing to
implement. However it may still cause some user confusion because for
long-lived branches they'll keep getting mailed later, rather than it
being naturally bounded to this review, which I think is what's really
wanted.

Well, it doesn't actually subscribe you, it just causes you to receive
email. :-)

I think this idea got vetoed at the design stage, but I think we should have another go at doing it now.
