I've talked this through with a marble developer, and he is going to report it on the kde bug tracker.

The problem seems to be that the correct co-ordinates of Douarnenez are -4.35,48.1 but in the data files they are listed as 4.35,48.1 . As you can see, the negative sign was left off, which caused the location of Douarnenez to be the wrong side of Prime Meridian. But because prime meridian goes through France, the error was small enough not to be noticed until now.

The city of Douarnenez (France) is mirrored at the Prime Meridian due to a missing '-' sign in the data file.
The position is correct in the current version of http://www.world-gazetteer.com and geonames.

This could also affect other places.
