in Windows, you can sometimes capture exit messages by using the utility program inkscapec.exe, which is available from :

to do this, you'll need to copy inkscapec.exe into the same directory as Inkscape.exe. Then start it up from a DOS prompt using the command inkscapec instead of inkscape. If all goes well the error messages will appear in the DOS window.
