Bug Description

I am trying to import a pdf file into Inkscape but it keeps freezing up. I have reinstalled Inkscape but it's not working. I have Inkscape on my desktop (Windows XP) which works perfectly but my laptop has Windows Vista and the Inkscape just will not import the pdf file. It will not give me the box to select a specific page of the multiple pages pdf file. It will just freeze up and give an error - "Not Responding"

Could you please attach the faulty PDF so that we can try to reproduce the bug?
Thanks!

I have attached the copy of the file.  I can open this on my PC Inkscape (.46) which is XP but my laptop is Vista and it also has .46 version of Inkscape but it keeps freezing up on the Vista laptop.

cannot reproduce the crash on Windows XP, build 0.47pre1.

however, I have a question: It was mentioned that there were multiple pages, I get only one page, svg file attached. Is this the expected size of the document?

are you able to open other .pdf files in Inkscape on your Vista machine?

Hi,
I have similar problems.
Two out of four pdf files cause a crash in Inkscape (both 4.6 and 4.7) under Vista
while they open well in Inkscape under XP.
The crash reports generated by Vista are mostly binary but one of them is utf-16 xml which I upload as attachment.
If it helps, I can also upload the other crash reports and one of the problematic pdfs.

I just found the description how to run inkscape from a dos prompt using InkCL.py / InkCL.bat

First, a window pops up (both when run from Windows or from dos prompt) "Inkscape ist auf einen internen Fehler gestoßen und wird nun geschlossen" (my translation: Inkscape hit an internal error and is now closed)
After acknowledging this window, the dos prompt shows:
return code: -1073741819
Error: Couldn't open 'nameToUnicode' file 'C:\target\share\poppler\nameToUnicode\'
Hope this helps.
Wilfried

@wilfriedh - are both machines, the Vista and the XP, both configured to use the same language by Inkscape?
- could you attach a .pdf file that crashes?

Sorry, I cannot reproduce the crash any more. All test files which crashed Inkscape last year are now imported well (with both Inkscape 0.46 built Apr 1, 2006, and Inkscape 0.47 r22583).
Meanwhile there were a lot of updates to Vista and to other software, so I cannot say which one might have affected Inkscape import.
Nonetheless I attach a file which as far as I remember caused the import to crash last year.

Oops, i forgot to answer the language question.
Yes, both machines are configured to use the same language.
Both the operating system and Inkscape are configured for German.

@wilfriedh - thanks for the testing, glad to hear it works. The language question was just for curiosity. Sometimes a different language can cause problems due to the use of non-Ascii characters.

@gpats - could you try the file 35.pdf again with a more recent version of Inkscape, available at :
http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape/files/
