Bug Description

The Ubuntu icon in the Human theme, used in the upper-left corner of the panel by default, is a scaled-down version of a larger, older-styled circle of friends logo. The use of space feels a little sloppy, and the thin heads and arms make the friends appear a bit anaemic. Also, the logo is appreciably different from the Ubuntu logo used in the bootsplash.

In the attached screenshot, I compare Ubuntu logos from the Human and Humanity icon sets, and the Ubuntu logo seen at boot. The Ubuntu icon from the Human theme feels dated and incorrectly proportioned in comparison.

In Breathe, we also remade the ubuntu logo for the start-here icon.
I attached a screenshot with the same comparision that David made.

How up to date is the artwork on the <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Official">official artwork page</a>?

I compared the logo proportions in the scalable svgs just now (attached), overlaying the svg from the official artwork page on top of the logo from Human. They're proportioned very similarly--the new logo may be slightly thicker (of course, I'm not sure how that holds up as it scales down).

 The big difference I noticed is that the logo in Human has a shine on it, which necessarily changes the colors in the shiny parts of the logo.

From a branding perspective, I don't find that acceptable. But perhaps it's a trade-off for consistency wrt lighting and perspective w/in the icon set?

Attached is our three choices:

1) An original Ubuntu Logo from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Official

2) The Ubuntu logo from the Humanity icon set

3) The Ubuntu logo from the Breathe icon set

My vote: Breathe
I feel the icon needs a border against the light colour of the Human gtk theme and the Humanity one is too cartoony

This looks like it's been fixed, or at least changed. The Ubuntu logo in the corner is now different on current Karmic.

This has been fixed with the move to Humanity however the bug still remains in the human icon theme.
