Bug Description

Package hint: nautilus 2.26.2

Take for example a gif of 50x50px, thumbnail size is set to 96 (/apps/nautilus/icon_view/thumbnail_size), the result is a blurred thumbnail.

Conclusion:
The thumbnail of an image should not be bigger than the image itself.

What is the new behavior if, for example, I have a 2px square png file? Is the thumbnail a 2px square? That would be hard to grab or even see.

An adequate fix has not been described. Making icons incredibly small to avoid scaling is not a usability win.

Perhaps, for images smaller than 32px, a "nice" square can surround them.. so, the image itself is "2px", but, the thumbnail is at least 32px..

I think you have misunderstood the fix.
The behavior I see is , that images below 16px are scaled-up to 16px size , so it is not made very little.
it seems 16px is kept as the cut-off .

Well, thats how it works for me , If it works differently , Kindly revert back the status...

Attaching screenshot of how an 8px icon is scaled up. Note the zoom is at the default 100% only.

I'v tried this with smaller images too up to 1px , and that is how it works. the small images get scaled-up.
[but i'v attached this 8px icon screenshot since it would be present in all systems to check easily]
