Bug Description

Using the latest version of rhythmbox from the trusty archives.

I've noticed that the "Context Pane" plugin does not appear to be installed.

The question is - why?

It definitely in in the rhythmbox source package - so when is the context pane plugin removed? - compile options issue?

I can confirm this bug, also the 'rhythmbox-plugins' package isn't being installed... (although with no context pane, most plugins are useless).

I've added a patch file to this bug report that resolves this issue - it is indeed a packaging issue. Hope this helps.

This applies to the debian/rhythmbox-plugins.install file in the rhythmbox package

also added is a patch to ensure that rhythmbox-plugins is made a dependency. It always has been in the past versions of ubuntu. It should also be moving forward since it is the default in Gnome and thus Ubuntu Gnome needs this fix.

The attachment "rhythmbox-plugins.install.patch" seems to be a patch. If it isn't, please remove the "patch" flag from the attachment, remove the "patch" tag, and if you are a member of the ~ubuntu-reviewers, unsubscribe the team.

Patches look fine, any reason not to merge the first one? I guess it's debatable whether rhythmbox-plugins should be a dependency or a recommendation, but most definitely, the context panel is missing from rhythmbox-plugins.

On a related note, recent changes to trusty's rhythmbox include:

Confirming that these very simple patches do their job. The "rhythmbox-plugins_3.0.2-0ubuntu2_*" package is now correctly rebuild so that the context pane plugin is installed once again.

Patch #1 (rhythmbox-plugins.install)

I would definitely say that this should be added back in 14.04, it's a big miss IMO.

The Context Pane is also still missing in Vivid and Utopic.

Patch #2 (control.in)

We can perhaps do without.... While installing rhythmbox-plugins as a dependency is nice, it may be too nice as it makes it impossible to remove rhythmbox-plugins without also removing rhythmbox.

summary: - no context pane plugin for trusty rhythmbox installation
+ No context pane plugin for rhythmbox installation (Trusty/Utopic/Vivid)
