Bug Description

Swfdec 0.8.2 fixes a lot of memory issues (leaks, crashes) that are found in 0.8.0 (the version currently found in Intrepid).

As compared to the version in Hardy (0.6.4), it adds support for PulseAudio, kind of a necessity since Hardy uses PulseAudio. I have personally backported 0.8.2 in pbuilder for my Hardy amd64 system, and I can confirm that it works very well.

See: release notes for 0.8.2: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/swfdec/2008-October/002081.html

We need to backport the swfdec source package and the swfdec-mozilla source package. Both build fine and work fine here, on an Intrepid system. swfdec-gnome which is the only other application to depend on swfdec still works fine.

Packages are available in my PPA if someone wants to give them a try : https://launchpad.net/~jerome-guelfucci/+archive

For Hardy (LTS) users, backporting 0.8.x is also very important, because it supports new video format, for example used in Youtube : 0.6.x no longer works for new videos. Thanks in advance for Hardy backport.

It looks like this bug requests a backport from Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope). However, as Jaunty is no longer supported, such a backport is no longer possible.

This bug is being set to "Won't Fix". If you would still like to move forward with this backport request, please re-open the bug and adjust it to request a backport from a current release.
