When adding an identi.ca account, it asks for a username, but you can't register an identica account that was created by login with an OpenID.

Identi.ca does not support using OpenID authentication with the API, so we can't implement that feature in Gwibber. :-(

In order to use Gwibber with Identi.ca, you have to use the control panel on the Identi.ca web site to configure a password. More details here:

The bug is real, and I guess it needs a change in both ident.ca and gwibber to be fixed. To set up a password just for gwibber seems like a lousy workaround to me, beats the very idea about OpenID.

I realise that no easy fix can be given before ident.ca has been fixed, but I suggest a button ("OpenID (Unavailable)") or similar be implemented, that informs about the situation.

I think a lot of people using OpenID like I do, wont have a password.

OpenID doesnt work for apps! what you need is OAuth.
Laconica is supposed to support OAuth on 0.8 but not sure we are there yet!

As I have previously said, Identi.ca does not support this. We will, however, be implementing support for OAuth in Gwibber 3.0, which means that OpenID users won't have to worry about Gwibber requiring a password anymore.

When will Gwibber 3.0 come out? This OpenID authentication failure is really a huge bug in both Identi.ca and Gwibber. OpenID was designed to make it easier to access all sorts of services with one ID. Looking forward to the next release. :)

Hi, I think the lack of ability to login with my OpenID to Identi.ca via Gwibber is NOT a bug, but a new discovery of a needed feature. Please keep us informed as to when we can login to anything with our OpenID. Thank you so much!
