Bug Description

Random Smart Playlists are always generated the same way, so they are not effectively random.

I can't reproduce this.

It may be that your SQLite is compiled wrongly. A quick Web search
suggests that compiling it with SQLITE_TEST causes RANDOM to always use
the same seed.

(If you're running an older version of Exaile (not sure how old) it may
also be a similar problem, but with the Python installation.)

I got the same issue in the recent Ubuntu Hardy distro, running nothing but official packages (i.e. exaile 0.2.11 and sqlite 3.4.2-2): clicking on the smartlist "100 at random" always gives me full albums, in the same order... and not random.

I got no idea how to check about the sqlite compilation option, but asked such a question here:
https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sqlite3/+question/35712

Ticking the "random" play option, on the other hand, works fine.
any help in fixing this is welcome.

SQLite is not used anymore and the tracks indeed are random in Exaile 0.3.0.
