Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz-core

1. When enabling the desktop effects and you happen to have a firefox window open, firefox misbehaves, it doesn't let the window to minimize/maximize. Additionally, the window manager goes off screen so you can't move the firefox window with the mouse.

2. Totem movie player has major problems with compiz. It loses the picture when you resize the movie size to 2x and it also loses the picture 3 out of 5 times when you go to full screen with a movie.

Two more:
3. when my mouse hovers on the top-right, Compiz goes into Expose' mode where all windows becomes clickable. If I instead do not click on a window but on the desktop itself, all windows minimize. Not sure if this is the indented behavior, but it's a bit confusing.

4. My gnome virtual screens don't work with Compiz. Clicking on them does nothing when Compiz is loaded.

5. When I drag a glxgears window on a different position on the screen, the first window still stays drawn and not refreshing the screen.

Thanks for your bug report Eugenia.

There are really too many issues all packed into a single bug report here (increasing the chances that none of the problems will be addressed). I know the issues all share compiz in common but please separate them out as they may not be related...

1. Try setting the following GConf key to false: /apps/gwd/use_metacity_theme

Does this fix your problem?

2. This is a known issue for AIGLX and Xv. Try changing the default video output with the gstreamer-properties utility (to X11 - No Xv) to work around it. (this will only apply to Gstreamer-based applications such as the default Totem installed).

3. This is indeed the intendend behaviour.

4. That's weird, the compiz version in feisty should support workspaces. Could you provide more details on this one (like what does the workspace switcher applet looks like and what happens when you try to use it. Also, have you tried the keyboard shortcuts to switch workspaces).

5. Not sure about this one.

1. No, it does not fix the problem. Firefox's window does not maximize/minimize. You have to open a new firefox window to get it work with compiz.

2. Thx, but I prefer Xv. I am usually playback HD video, so I need all the acceleration I can get.

3. Ok, although it might raise some eyebrowses.

4. Hmm, seems to work now.

5. It is reproducible here with the i810 driver. When you move the GLXGears window in another position in the screen, the original position still has the gears drawn and it doesn't refresh.

Please make separate bug reports for these issues. Problems 2 and 5, for example, are problems in driver/xorg, not compiz. Hard to do proper triage with this megabug.

Changed in compiz:
status: Unconfirmed → Rejected

Rejected? I can confirm the first bug, and am pretty sure it will stop any but the most casual users from giving desktop-effects more than a 10-second trial. Rather than simply rejecting bug reports and telling users to spend more of their free time to re-enter bugs, why not just parcel them into separate bugs yourselves?

That said, creating a new issue for the first reported bug...
