Bug Description

As in summary, see attached test case and scan. I would like to add, that the letter that is replaced by apostrophe is not constant. When i was trying to reproduce this bug i was editing the test case and managed to have colons replaced by apostrophe and the letter k replaced by some weird glyph. I also have another doc, where s is replaced by e.

I need a lot more informations:

First, can you follow the instructions of the sections "CUPS error_log" and "Capturing print job data" of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems for a job which shows the problem? Can you tell whether this only happens when printing from LibreOffice? Or does it also happen with other applications? With which ones. You have very many print queues. Does the problem occur with all of them? If not, with which does it occur and with which not? Does it depend on printer option settings?

hi guys

I have a similar problem when printing pdf's.
They come out well when printed from LibreOffice, but in the exported pdf documents some characters are dropped and replaced by small empty square boxes. It seems to happen randomly between documents, however in one documents it's always the same characters. They look perfect on screen.

When I edit an existing document and save it under a new name (like monthly invoices) the dropped character changes. I can not relate this to a specific template, layout or something that was originally made in another text processor.

It makes no difference which printer I use (HP LJ2500, HP Photosmart c7200, HP c4500 or a Samsung clx3175, depending on my location).

Ubuntu Oneiric amd64, Dell Latitude 131L, daily updates.
Let me know if you need more information.

cheers
Tom

I'll attach the log and job later.

Yes, I beleive so.

I'll test and post the results later.

> Does it depend on printer option settings?

I don't beleive so, I used only the defaults.

The captured print job is a PDF and is displayed correctly in Okular - colons aren't replaced so I beleive Libreoffice isn't at fault here.

No, it appears only Canon is affected, I printed the PDF on HP P2015 and colons weren't replaced there.

I can reproduce it. It happens when the foomatic-rip CUPS filter converts the incoming PDF data to PostScript because Canon's driver needs it.

You can already reproduce it by running the following command in a terminal window:

pdf2ps printout

and then display the result, for example via

gs printout.ps

Then you also see the colons replaced by apostrophes.

I will report this upstream to the Ghostscript developers.
