Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Per the description of Bug #406626 then "Rubbish Bin" is the correct term for British English.

There are quite a few of strings involving the Trash/Bin/Wastebasket to be fixed, though should be a very simple fix (I just don't have the permissions).

I've made these changes in Rosetta. I think it's just a case of waiting for them to be automatically SRUed.

We're going to roll out an update to the Natty language packs this week.

Please check out for the announcement on the ubuntu-translators mailing list [1]. It would be great if you could then test the language pack, provide feedback and mark this bug as Fix Released.

Thanks!

David, version 1:11.04+20110509 of the language packs fixes most of the problems (in both Nautilus and Unity). There is only one place not yet translated, but I'm not sure where to change this tring. See the attached screenshot.

This probably comes from nautilus [1].

I've done a search for all "Wastebasket" instances in the en_GB translations and it seems there are still a few:

http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/622618/

You can fix them by going to a url such as https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/<source-package>, choosing the template and entering 'Wastebasket' in the search box to locate the strings.

E.g.

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/nautilus/

<source-package> should roughly be the name in square brackets in the pasted text. The name in square brackets is actually the template name, but it often is the same as the source package name.

[1] It's probably https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/nautilus/+pots/nautilus/en_GB/+translate?batch=10&show=all&search=%3Cb%3Ewastebasket%3C%2Fb%3E which has already been fixed in Launchpad and it's waiting for the next langpack upload to release the fixes

Thanks for the reply David. I'm a bit confused though.

For instance the "<b>Rubbish Bin</b>" was corrected in Launchpad on 2011-04-29. Why does a translations package marked "20110509" not include this change?

Also, if I got to the nautilus URL, as you suggested and search for "Wastebasket" then all the strings that come up have already been changed to "Rubbish Bin"?

The 20110607 packages appear to have fixed this problem (at least in terms of all screenshots attached to this bug, I will keep my eyes out for anymore inconsistencies)

Excellent.

In that case, do you think you could do a couple more sanity checks on the en_GB language pack and leave some feedback on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/LanguagePackUpdatesQA?

We've just uploaded them to the natty-proposed repository along with the other languages, and we've started the call for testing. As per the usual practice, we'll only release packages into natty-updates for the languages we get feedback for.

Here's the original call for testing:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-translators/2011-June/004819.html

It would also be great if at least some of the UK people doing translations could subscribe to the Ubuntu Translators mailing list and follow any announcements and discussions regarding translations.
