Bug Description

Freeze exception and main inclusion request justification:

OpenOffice.org & LibreOffice Calc have a solver built in for linear programming but for more complex situations, a nonlinear solver is needed. LibreOffice ships NLPSolver (which adds the additional algorithms to the built-in solver) as a bundled extension so it can reasonably be expected to be in the version that Ubuntu ships as well.

Furthermore, I have confirmed that installing the extension from extensions.openoffice.org does not include l10n for the additional user interface but the Debian package does.

@JBF thanks for your report. Can you provide detailed steps to reproduce this problem, any exact error message ? Also please share the exact URL you used to wrok around this issue. Unless you comment otherwise I assume this problem affects the PPA-installed version, not the .deb manually installed packages. Thanks in advance.

Hi Fabian,

Yes of course this bug affects the PPA-installed version. There is no package for this extension in the PPA although NLPSolver is a bundled extension in vanilla version (as pdfimport, Presenter Console, etc.).

Best regards. JBF

Hi JBF, I searched for libreoffice-extension-nlpsolver which is part of the .debs available at libreoffice.org and can confirm it's missing. I'll mention it in the master bug for LibO packagin, Bug # 651124.

Package nlpsolver is still in the queue waiting for inclusion in debian.

see: http://ftp-master.debian.org/new.html

Once it is there, I will add it to the ppa too ASAP.

rationale for inclusion in main: it is one of the key features of Libreoffice and is distributed along with the main packages from upstream

Please merge 0.9~beta1-5 from Debian which fixed the build dependency problem. I successfully tested the build with pbuilder.

This MIR would now require a feature freeze exception. If interested, subscribe ubuntu-release and ask for an exception.

If I read the description correctly we want that in main to replace the bundled solver, which isn't localized? So the FFE wouldn't be about having the solver, but about the missing l10n, right? The latter is really a bug, so doesn't require an FFE.

Kinda. This replaces the default solver which has l10n, but is inferior. As we are not bundling the NLPSolver as upstream does, on can only install the solver from extensions.services.openoffice.org and that one is not localized. I have not yet verified the debian package to have l10n though.

Anyway: This would need a FFE, I guess, as without the NLPSolver l10n is fine.

Well, I read it like the solver is not installed right now (as it isn't bundled in Ubuntu). The user can download it fine, but then it isn't localized. Or the user can install the package from the archive and have localization. So this sounds like it's enabling a new feature/package (the solver).

The debian package should have l10n.

So to test the l10n, I installed libreoffice-help-fr which also brought in libreoffice-l10-fr. I then set Tools>Options>Language>Interface Language to French and restarted LibreOffice. Tools>Solver appears to be fully translated into French (including the Options dialog).

I did notice that Help for the nlpsolver was not translated into French. However, neither was help for any of the other extensions we're including, specifically Presenter Console (as the other extensions don't appear to me to include Help at all

The MIR was approved before feature freeze; there was just a missing build dependency that was not really looked into for a few weeks.

The MIR was never approved. I started to look into it, but stopped once I hit the FTBFS. I can look again if this is approved for FFe. It's really simple: just subscribe ubuntu-release and explain why it should be in by default.

As for FFE, this is really part of LibO, so it would seem unfair to upstream to not ship it. Also, there's still enough time to test it, and this feature does not have further dependencies, so in the worst case we can back it out again.

FFE Approved.
