Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.17

When I change mode to ad-hoc via iwconfig command, my cop freezes.
My wireless card is:
$ lspci -v | grep -i ralink
01:03.0 Network controller: RaLink Unknown device 0302

Steps to reproduce the bug:
If module rt61pci supports your card, the following commands will freeze your pc:
sudo iwconfig wlan0 mode ad-hoc
sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid any-essid

I can confirm this. Same problem persists with the CVS-Version (today: 28.Okt.2006).

I can confirm this on an up-to-date Gutsy. Issuing

iwconfig wlan0 essid any (any can be replaced by an actual AP with the same behavior) or iwlist wlan0 scan

locks my PC.
