Bug Description

it's a wish, not a bug, I would say.

is it possible to make a KDE-integration package for firefox like there is for Gnome; let's name it "firefox-kde-support".

I know there has to be much more in it but a good start would be the file

"/usr/share/firefox/defaults/pref/kde-integration.js" or similar which contains just one line:
pref("network.protocol-handler.app.mailto", "kmailservice");

I don't know how this is done in Gnome, but I think it's done a similar way.

Thank you for your bug report. I changed it to a wish list bug. i changed the package as this is kubuntu related not ubuntu. I would agree with you but firefox is included in ubuntu-desktop package as kubuntu-desktop package does not include firefox by default. the mozilla-firefox-gnome-support is included in ubuntu-desktop. I'm guessing kubuntu-desktop doesnt include firefox because its a GTK app but that may not be why.

you answered too quickly ;-) - I already edited the report a little.
I never guessed that somebody would answer within a few minutes - I'm deeply impressed...
But thanks for the answer - you're right.

It's ok when Konqueror is the standard browser in Kubuntu, and It's no good idea to install 57 different browsers by default ;-) - but there SHOULD be the possibility to use firefox with KDE easily - and this little change would make the "about:config - new, string..."-method obsolete.

Maybe make this package a suggestion of the firefox deb?

I think this should be implented as soon as possible. I can't find the original bug, does someone has it?

This needs to be addressed in Firefox really. Either it should handle mimetypes properly as per XDG spec out of the box or at least use xdg-email to invoke $emailclient.

IIRC latter is the only sensible possibility as the mimetype handling requires a lot of GNOME libraries. So I suppose firefox should invoke xdg-email unless GNOME integration is available.

Moving bug to firefox-3.0 source package.

affects: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) → firefox (Ubuntu)
