Bug Description

Binary package hint: onboard

I use a Japanese keyboard layout on my desktop. When running onboard, it correctly detects this, and displays a Japanese keyboard layout to select the keys. Unfortunately, when keys are selected, the character sent to the receiving application matches that of the character that would be sent for that key in a US layout (e.g. & is sent for ', ' is sent for :, and * is sent for ) ).

The newer version in my PPA might have a fix for your problem. If you are going to test it, could you please tell us whether it works as expected?

This also happens with the newest build and with the hungarian layout too.

It shows a hungarian QWERTZ layout, but sends presses as on a english QWERTY keyboard.

the setxkbmap command fixes the problem, but i have to run it every restart, each time i start a Wine app, or each time it switches layout on its own.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test a current Ubuntu Ubuntu10.10. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD.
