Bug Description

Using Lucid with latest available updates:

When you turn off the KDE splash trough,

System settings | Appearance | Splash Screen

and set it to "None"

When the desktop is drawn, it displays a white rectangle in the left corner of about two third of screen-width, and 1/3 of the screen-height. That flashes, and goes away in about 1second.

This is plasma-desktop starting up, and is the reason that the splash is there in the first place. You're agreeing to have a not-so-visually-clean look by disabling the splash.

A splash-screen, is there to give you status information about its loading progress, not to hide glitches/ errors in a program.

I'm having this problem with my lenovo thinkpad, it has an intel ssd in it, and boots to the desktop in less then 5sec (rather 3.5 / 4m from the post-screen) the splash-screen delays it until everything is fully loaded, and that is annoying because i could already have started with things that are loaded.

For mentioned reasons i disagree with the 'invalid' status you gave this bug-report.

Please put it back to 'open'.

I'm glad to see that the plasma developers fixed this glitch with the current release that is in Maverick.

Jonathan Thomas: i still disagree with your assumption that 'You're agreeing to have a not-so-visually-clean look by disabling the splash.'

the 'none' option has never caused a 'unclean' look in the past either with KDE, im glad it remains that way with newer Kubuntu releases,

but i still prefer to see a backport for Lucid Lynx, sinds its LTS for a comming while ; )
