Bug Description

1)Description: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release: 10.04
Using lucid for server 64-bit(amd64)
2) Don't know if it's the kernel or the logger of even a h/w bug. Using "linux-image-2.6.32-23-server 2.6.32-23.37"
3) When I connect a microsoft keyboard via USB, dmesg gives:

[ 1788.322311] input: Microsoft Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse v2.0 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb3/3-1/3-1:1.0/input/input41
[ 1788.322398] generic-usb 0003:045E:00CB.0005: input,hidraw2: USB HID v1.11 Mouse [Microsoft Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse v2.0 ] on usb-0000:00:1a.0-1/input0

But the log file has:

2010-07-01_13:13:40.99981 kern.info: [ 1688.698673] inpu: Mcoot iof ai pia os 2. a dvie/c0000/0001./s3313:10ip/nu39<> 68.86]gercub00:4E0C.03 nu,irw:UBHDv.1Mue[coot McootBscOtclMuev. nub00:01.-/nu0<> 68688]uboe eitrdnwitrae rvrubhd<> 68688]ubi:v.:S I oedie

I've tried both rsyslog and socklog and both have the same problem. So I'm leaning towards the kernel or something, but not the logger as the source of this probem.

Hi skar,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 600629

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the delay. Was out of office.

There are 2 servers with identical h/w and s/w running Ubuntu. I can't
install 10.10 devel on any of these, however I'll try with the mainline
kernel builds and see if the bug has gone away.

cheers,
skar.
