Bug Description

Binary package hint: udisks

On Lucid, after updating package udisks from version 1.0.1-1build1 to version 1.0.1-1ubuntu1 floppies can not be mounted via Gnome GUI. From within a dektop session, trying to mount the floppy via GUI or issuing command "mount /media/floppy0" or "sudo moutn /media/floppy0" does not work: the commands return without error, for one second, the floppy icon is displayed on the desktop but instantly disappears. (The floppy drive leds also blink for one second only...) Typing the command "mount" reveals that the floppy is not mounted.

When no desktop session is started, I can mount the floppy with "mount /media/floppy0" wihtout problems. When a desktop session is started, the floppy is immediately unmounted.

Using the command "gvfs-mount -d /dev/fd0" reports "No volume for device file /dev/fd0". Having started "gvfs-mount -o" and in parallel, running "mount /media/floppy" results in 2 gvfs events: "Mount added: 'floppy0'" followed by "Mount removed: 'floppy0'".

Workaround: Mounting the floppy with the command "udisks --mount /dev/fd0" completes successfully, the mount shows up in /etc/mtab and the GUI also displays the icon, the floppy can be browsed etc, everything works. But there is no other (graphical) way to mount the floppy with udisks of version 1.0.1-1ubuntu1.

After reverting/putting package udisks 1.0.1-1build1 on hold, mounting floppies via GUI and commandline both work fine.

I believe this bug might be related to the fix of #539515.

floppy capability is *required* for communication with dos based computers that are still in use in many industrial and laboratory environments.

I think this can be marked as a duplicate of bug 441835 which has longer history and more "me too" votes.
