Bug Description

Binary package hint: emacs23

Emacsclient switches desktops and warps the mouse pointer on start.

This is not only rude, but against accepted guidelines for X programs. Only the window manager or desktop environment itself, and its accessories (desktop pagers, task bars, ...) should ever manipulate choice of virtual desktop.

A workaround is M-x customize-save-variable focus-follows-mouse n.

And another workaround is M-x customize-save-variable server-raise-frame n

This prevents emacsclient from stealing focus at start (... which it somehow manages to do even without warping the mouse pointer...)
