Bug Description

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Xubuntu 10.04 - which I *think* uses PulseAudio as default, please reassign if I'm incorrect in thinking this.

The mute LED on my NC8000 laptop doesn't toggle correctly when the button is pressed. I've found an ALSA bug report about this

https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=667

(choose View-Only if you get a login screen) and, while it's a while since I've used Linux on this laptop I think it has worked correctly in the past.

This bug should affect alsa-driver, not pulseaudio. Furthermore, Xubuntu
10.04 LTS doesn't use pulse by default. Please change the affected package
to alsa-driver, then use "apport-collect 588059".

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

@Charlie, need more than one person to mark a bug as confirmed, as it could be a hardware/setting on Mendez computer.
I think Mute LED's are more of a Linux issue than alsa-driver issue, so I'm moving the package there as well.

@David, Please check the kernel bug triage policies. There will never be more than one person to confirm a bug in the kernel, since there will not be any bugs marked as duplicates. Each person with an issue in the kernel is advised to file a new bug, please do not add to an existing bug. If a person gives a "this is my bug too", they are advised to file a new bug for their hardware.

There seems to be quirk support for your hardware in the existing intel8x0.c driver:

1897 {
1898 .subvendor = 0x103c,
1899 .subdevice = 0x088c,
1900 .name = "HP nc8000",
1901 .type = AC97_TUNE_HP_MUTE_LED
1902 },

Can you boot from a Maverick live cd and reproduce the symptom?

Mendez, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc3

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

Closing this bug with Won't fix as this kernel / release is no longer supported.
Please feel free to open a new bug report if you're still experiencing this on a newer release (Bionic 18.04.3 / Disco 19.04)
Thanks!
