Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Writer exports new unsaved files as pdf under the _hidden_ directory "<user-home>/.openoffice.org/3/user/gallery".

Steps to reproduce the bug:
- create new document in openoffice writer (important: don't save the file!)
- export as pdf
- writer opens the save file dialog with the preselected directory "<user-home>/.openoffice.org/3/user/gallery" (users see only "gallery" in the combo box)
- that happens every time if you even select another directory before

Unexperienced users cannot find pdf files after that, because they see only "gallery" in the file save dialog and they don't know about hidden directories.

Expected result:
- preselected directory is "Desktop" (or "Documents")

I don't know, whether other linux distributions or windows are affected either. Calc is not affected.

Confirmed... this is a horrible default path, and I'm honestly not sure where it's coming from.

It appears this may be related to the upstream bug:

I commented on the bug to see if the upstream developers think it should be a separate bug report.

Openofffice 3.2 on Windows XP is affected too. The preselected directory is (with German locale):
<user-home>\Anwendungsdaten\OpenOffice.org\3\user\gallery

Affected: Writer, Draw, Impess
Not affected: Calc, Math

The upstream bug report is http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=108835

The upstream target milestone is currently "OOo 3.3". Can somebody from Ubuntu OpenOffice Team ask upstream developers to fix it in 3.2 too (in order to provide the fix for Ubuntu 10.04)?

By the way, it's a regression - all previous OpenOffice versions (2.4, 3.0, 3.1) are not affected.

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.
