Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Ubuntu 9.10 updated in 16 May 2010

Having selected the chart in the spreadsheet, I expected to be able to print it. NO. I mucked around for half an hour trying to find how to print the chart. I even tried copying and pasting to a word processing document. Nope, didn't work either.

Went to Help to find out how to print chart. Nothing there. Searched on chart print, print chart. paste chart. Then ran out of ideas.

I don't want to print the whole spreadsheet. Just the chart.

Thanks,

TIm.

Help -> Charts in OpenOffice.org

"To print a chart in high quality, you can export the chart to a PDF file and print that file."

So do "Select the chart -> Export as PDF -> Range -> Selection" and it works.

I've had another go at printing a chart. The worksheet concerned is "2010".
The chart I want to print is embedded in a worksheet that has 365+ lines
(goto line 210). I only want to print the chart, so I click on it (to
highlight it). When I go to format page/sheet/ and untick everything except
charts - the print preview shows text. Not a chart, on a single page.

However I have found today that if I highlight the chart, then paste it into
a new sheet, the chart appears on the new sheet and will print. However
formating the page still resulted in some strange responses - like text ,
not the chart, being previewed. The disadvantage of this method is that the
chart will not be updated when the new data is entered in the spreadsheet.

It would be best if the chart would print from the original sheet - but the
software does not seem to recognise the fact that I have highlighted the
chart (ie: After I click on the chart, there appears a square in each corner
and an anchor top left.

I've attached the file that is misbehaving, it might help!

Thanks for your efforts.

Ubuntu rules!

Tim.

Tim Moreland, this issue is unreproducible in LibreOffice Calc via the Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop && wget -c https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/581647/+attachment/1462405/+files/3%20Rainfall%202010.xls -O inf.xls

Click the graph -> Format -> Page... -> Page tab -> change Orientation radio button to Landscape -> OK -> File -> Print -> General tab -> under Range and copies click radio button Selected cells -> Properties button -> change drop down Orientation to Landscape -> OK button and notice the print preview contains the entire graph on one page. Does this work for you? If using Lucid or Maverick feel free to perform at the Terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade && sudo apt-get -y install libreoffice-calc

Ok It works for me! But I would not have guessed that a chart is the
equivalent of a cell (!). Maybe the Print General Tab should say "selected
cells or chart".

Thanks for your response,

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.
