Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-sis

Hello

When compiling, even with xserver-xorg-dev installed, I get the error:

sis.h:74:27: error: xf86Resources.h: No such file or directory

The driver compiled ok on Karmic.

A similar bug has bee filed here:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=569423

and it is marked as solved.

Best regards

Antonio

You are not compiling the sis driver which compiles fine, you're compiling a fork of it based off extremely old SIS source that needs updating to support xserver 1.7 and is not supported at all in ubuntu.

Let me have a guess...
sisimedia driver?
There is already a new version for Xorg Server used in Lucid... just google around a bit ;)
I think this schould do the job (if you really mean sisimedia): http://estebanordano.com.ar/sis-m671m672-driver-for-xorg-xserver-7-5-on-debian-sidux/

Hi

RH, correct, i am compiling an old driver. that is one of the 2 that work on Karmic. included sis driver does not work at all.
GH, that is a 32-bit driver which I tried to compile under lucid...

make[2]: *** No rule to make target `sis671.@DRIVER_MAN_SUFFIX@', needed by `all-am'. Stop.

in spite i have xutils-dev

Note, selecting xutils-dev instead of xorg-build-macros
xutils-dev is already the newest version.

dead end, mates...have to wait either for a bug fix or somebody compiling a driver in debian, not that the bug there is closed.

thanks for your feedback

Antonio

Why do you want to compile an old driver? Is the shipped driver not working? What graphics card do you use exactly?

The upstream bug you linked does not deal with xserver-xorg-video-sis it describes a problem while compiling xserver-xorg-video-tga maybe you are mixing something up?

Hi, this is a real PITA, see bug 301958 and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=95896

this card (771/671) is not detected and there is no bloody driver for it on the kernel.

I was a provider of 32 and 64-bit karmic and Jaunty drivers on my site because most of these good people can't compile and I just did the Lucid jump to help them, they were complaining. This is a serious Ubuntu flaw cause there are a bunch (thousands) of these computers on the market and the f. manufacturer provides no support. I have to add that i hate software (I am an hardware/firmware specialist) and I only touch it when I have to.

And debian bug has the same symptoms, the header lack is the same, since ubuntu closely follows debian, solution will probabably be the same.

All around on most distros we get the same complaints...

Cheers

Yeah it compiles fine it just doesn't work at all for 671/771 SiS cards.

2 Years and still this SiS driver supported by ubuntu doesn't work on 671/771. Great job done there.
