Bug Description

Binary package hint: indicator-sound

Volume changes are displayed using the notification system.

It would make sense for the volume applet, which allows you to make these changes, to also follow a similar style.

Have a look at the screenshot that's attached, it's a mockup by "fibermarupok" and I think it is where the volume applet should be heading.

I think this is a bad idea -- just because the applet is currently Ubuntu specific doesn't mean that widgets should suddenly not follow the gnome hig.
