Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

The display was black on when I resumed from suspend-to-ram. I managed to do a proper reboot by pressing the power button followed by return.

Affects both of my Lucid computers as well. The laptop runs the Intel 915GM while the desktop runs NVIDIA.

Also, both will not shut down. It seems to be related.

None of the Karmic versions are affected.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command in a terminal after reproducing the issue, and it it will automatically gather debugging information needed for this bug:

  apport-collect 529424

(You may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report.)

The automatic bug reporting tools had some problems when this bug was reported, which results in very few logs being collected. There has also been some important updates that may have resolved or changed the appearece of this bug. I think it is easier for both you and us if you file a new bug report if the problem continues, so I'm closing this report.

OK, now it happened again, in a just-updated lucid lynx. I hope it's OK that I continue on the same bug report.

I manage to ssh into the machine even though the display is black. apport-collect says "No additional information collected."

Here are the lates entries in /var/log/kern.log. The resume happened, as you see, on 21:39:48.

Hi neu,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 529424

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
