Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase

Simple, really.

.flv files don't play nicely with Dolphin's preview function, nor do they play nicely with some media players; the result is the same:

a garbled picture, a huge amount of white noise...or both.

Which media players exhibit this behavior. MPlayer? (Dolphin uses MPlayer for its video thumbnails, if you have mplayerthumbs installed.)

It isnt a media player, it's dolphin's imbedded function in the preview pane (as of KDE 4.3) that does it.

I have not changed anything from a default install.

You said that some media players also had trouble with the flv file in the original report.

Oh yes, sorry!

VLC media player, MPlayer, Kaffeine and Dragon Player all have trouble with .flv files (in order of lowest trouble to highest)

This is most likely an mplayer issue, since KDE uses mplayer to generate video thumbnails for dolphin via mplayerthumbs.

Ah...no, I'm not using MPlayerthumbs. It's simply the default system, which I beleive intergrates Dragon player right into the preview pane of Dolphin.

reassigning back to kdebase then as the problem does not seem to be present when using /usr/bin/mplayer directly.

Hmm, I don't think flvs get previews when mplayerthumbs isn't present, or at least they don't here... You're lucky I guess. :) (But maybe not so much since you have the bug? :P)

affects: kdebase (Ubuntu) → kdemultimedia (Ubuntu)
