Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

The problem seems to be the same as this one https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/155493. (The last comment told to open a new bug if the problem came up again.)

Anyway in short: When having Compiz on ("Normal" in Visual Effects in the Appearances window), windows over video playing in Totem (Banshee or VLC) have a black border around them (probably from the window shadow that Compiz makes).

Like the other bug poster, I am unable to get the video picture on a screen capture so I'll probably take a photo sometime soon instead to illustrate.

SInce you are using overlay Xv as far as compiz can tell your video doesn't actually exist and it is drawing on top of a black window, thus the solid black shadow. If you tried with mplayer it would show a blue shadow because it would be drawing on top of a blue window.

Your driver needs to support and use textured Xv by default on your video card.

This bug is no longer present for me on the same machine in Lucid Alpha 3. Should I mark as fixed? (PS. @Travis: Never got to say thanks for the technical explanation :)).
