Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

The installer slideshow is a very useful feature for new users (and old users alike). I've been using Ubuntu for years, but it still helped me when I saw the slideshow. I found out about cool features that weren't given attention.

The last part of the slideshow tells the user where to ask for help. However, it wasn't pointed out that there are very handy features under the Help menu of almost every GUI app. I believe that pointing out to the user (new or old) that "Get Help Online" and "Report a Problem" exist would be beneficial for bug management and helping users out. The slideshow is a great place to inform users about this.

btw, I'm not sure if this is the right package for this issue. Please edit if I'm wrong.

Okay, so right now we have the following for the first bullet point in the final slide ("Getting help with Ubuntu"):

* If you need help, try Help and Support from the System menu, or the Help menu in most applications.

So it does point out the help menu, but it definitely doesn't differentiate it from the useless help menus people may be used to.

We are a bit short on space for this slide, and it already has a lot of information. The slide goes on to mention technical support options at ubuntu.com/support and then has a gentle nudge towards the community (for those interested in getting involved).

I don't see how to fit this in without causing pain, but the issue is probably that I'm too attached to the present shape. Do you have an idea for what we can change to emphasize the awesome Help menus?

OK, since 12.10, Ubuntu no longer includes the launchpad-integration package and distro patches that put these items in all the Help menus (see bug 999413 for details), making this bug report obsolete.
